Checkmate

Sometimes when relationships end, if there is not good communication between the two, the thing can turn into a conflict. It isn’t until one gets some distance from the thing that, in retrospect, it is recognized that the miserable thing had been prolonged just to try to beat out the other, as if there would be any satisfaction in that either. So here sit our couple, having played the game. She has brought the conflict to it’s impasse. He reviews the situation. On her way out the door she glances back at him, and she might be imagined to be saying “You just sit there and think about what you should have done differently.”
