Bathsheba

At the time that I did this women generally seemed very distant from me, as though hoping to catch a glimpse of one naked would be enough to satisfy me for the moment. So I have pictured David here enamored by the mere sight of Bathsheba bathing. Of course, it is not possible to extrapolate much more significance than that between my source and my personal position. King David had several wives and wasn’t wanting, and got Bathsheba besides, although, perhaps, it hardly seemed worth it for a while. Enough for me to simply admire.

My favorite elements of this painting are the still life of fruit on the floor and the spilled water near the dish.
