Villana

Saint Villana had been a vain rich woman, but when her reflection one day revealed her to be inwardly a rotten monster she reconsidered the worth of appearances and changed her ways.

I had done a book of drawing of some saints, and I quite liked the drawing that I had done on the theme of Villana, so I decided to do this painting of it. The basic composition of it follows other paintings that I’ve done that involve mirrors and their revealing reflections. The point of the painting is the same as in the story. Riches and beauty do nothing to compensate for a monstrous nature.

Return to "Villana."

(Paintings that feature revealing mirrored reflections are "Conversion," "Narcissist," "Her Ghost," "Hugging a Vampire," "Villana," and "Dogfight.")
