She Seems No Angel Now

I had a red haired girlfriend who would sit up in bed in the morning and then visit with me for a while with her back to me. So this is the view that I always had. The window was above the bed so there was always sunlight streaming in upon her. While all of that accounts for my composition, the subject isn’t necessarily a reference to her, although it isn’t necessarily not one either.

I had done a few drawings. One was of a woman with wilted angel wings sitting on the foot of a bed, and the other was of this girlfriend sitting up in bed. The two became combined in this painting. It seems to me that it can be interpreted an a few different ways. Either this person was an actual angel who has apparently compromised her divinity by partaking in less-than-angelic behaviors, or the view of her is more subjective, and she is just a woman who once appeared to be angelic, but that illusion is now done with. The title favors the latter view.
