Circus

It isn't unusual for circus imagery to appeal to visual artists, and many of my own personal favorites have relied fairly heavily on circus scenes, including Pablo Picasso and Max Beckman. I'd been wanting to do some sort of a circus theme for a while when I was asked to do a solo show with rather short notice. Taking inventory of the paintings that I wanted to show, and having time to do one more, I decided that what the show could really use was a large painting with a simple theme and a relatively complex composition. It was a perfect time to produce my circus painting. The theme really requires no explanation, it's just the appeal of the circus and the unusual, but it gave me an opportunity to do another of the figurative clusters that I like to do once in a while.
