King of the World

It had struck me that in both the gnostic scripture "Authoritative Teaching" and Lautreamont's "Maldorer" the Creator is described as an awful monarch who eats the souls of men like fish. The exact reference to fish is in either text. There is no way that Lautreamont could have been aware of the earlier writing, as it was not known at the time. Conversely, there is no way that the earlier could have been aware of Lautreamont for obvious reasons. In gnosticism God is separate from the Creator, who is contemptable. Lautreamont considered the Creator in Catholic terms, to be the same as God, and, in his utter contempt for Catholicism, goes further in describing the Creator as one who sits in a throne that is itself in a pile of shit. So either comes from their unique perspective, but both arrive at the conclusion that the Creator is an awful thing that delights in the torment of mankind.

At the time that I did this I was myself in a rather pessimistic mood, and didn't feel like the administrator of the world, if there is one, had any kind preference for me. So this view, and the interest that I took in these very diverse sources arriving at the very same perspective, appealed to me. So here he is, the grotesque Creator, chewing at fish bones and human remains, his throne of gold tilting over in a pile of shit. I tied the goat skull, which is found in my representations of the Devil, to his head, with his crown sitting atop all of that.
