Siren


The reference is to Homer’s “Odyssey” in which Ulysses must sail past the rock of the sirens, and would have wrecked his ship and lost his life to enjoy them if left to his own desires. This was done at a time when I knew better than to heed the invitations of a seductive recent girlfriend, regardless of the temptation. The song birds that come from her mouth and sing into the man's ear are her sweet words or seductive song.
