the Ghost of Anne Boleyn

There is a folk tale that Anne Boleyn, the beheaded wife of Henry VIII, had three breasts and six fingers on one hand. The first that I ever heard of this was in "the Book of Lists," in which it was related as fact. All else that I've ever referenced of the story suggests that there's no truth to it. But there's probably no truth to the story that her ghost used to walk around in the palace carrying her head either. Either way, it seems to me that if you want to make a ghost creepy, assuming that chopped off heads aren't creepy enough, then you may as well throw in deformities as well.

I made this painting in anticipation of a Halloween show that I intended to do at the time. The show didn't happen, but at least the painting got done.
