Song of Solomon

“Song of Solomon” is the love poem of the Bible, generally conceived of as a dialogue between King Solomon and the African Queen of Sheba. The scripture is lavish in it’s references to birds, flowers, and other elements of nature. There are mentions of the queen’s attendant maidens. This is simply an illustration of that scripture.

The flying figures were inspired by the paintings of the Polish artist Schulzenko, which I had encountered in Chicago. I hoped that the use of flight would here relate the exalted feeling of being in love.

Return to "Song of Solomon."

(Paintings that feature people flying or falling are "Song of Solomon," "Tristan and Isolde," "Icarus Descending," "Rapture," and "Ascension.")
