Calypso

Calypso was the wood nymph in "the Odyssey" who offered Ulysses eternal life if he would only love her. He didn’t take her up on the deal. After several years of holding him captive she finally relented and released him. I made this at a time that I was feeling rather lonely, and I put Calypso alone in the double bed to emphasize her loneliness. Being stuck on a rock in the middle of the ocean, it seems very unlikely that she will soon meet another. I had done some drawings of wood nymphs with hair like tree limbs, and this is where I got the idea for her appearance.
